Episode 311: Blind Justice (League)
Thanks to my Patron Doug Robertson for the title suggestion.
And thanks as always to ALL my Patrons on Patreon for helping make this and all Gyno-Star updates possible. If you’re not a Patron already, consider pledging!
Also, please vote for me in the ComicMix March Madness Webcomic Tournament! Round 1 voting is over so make sure you vote in Round 2. It’s really simple to do, just click on “Gynostar” and then “submit.” You can also vote multiple times, once per day. It’s super easy and free and literally takes seconds and I’ll be so grateful.
Lastly, if you haven’t noticed I posted a new Bad Princess so make sure to check it out.
1. I only see ideas, not gender.
2. Gynostar is directly connected to female gender.
3. If Gynostar tries to tell me an idea, I can’t pay any attention to anything in that direction because I would have to look too close to something gender-related!
4. By the “man=human” special case, if men want to tell me ideas, I can see them as just “generic humans” and then I can see them and hear their ideas!
So it is Gynostar’s fault for not having gotten a sex change to make her what I can see as a generic human!
So no problem! (that I can see)
Ah yes, “I don’t see BLANK”, best defense of the modern racist or misoginist.
It’s a classic.
I don’t see dead people…. 😀
I can’t see Our Heroine working with this particular sub-species for very long.
She gave it a good try, though.
Rebecca:on taking a second look at the comic, I think there’s a typo. The last line shouldbe “I see only gender, not ideas.”
Have a happy Alril 1!
“What? Is it somehow our fault that pitch is a major signifier of merit?”
Ha. I bet there’s a study about that somewhere.
“I don’t see gender, I just pay more attention to ideas that come from deeper male voices because they have more gravitas.” 😉
Here’s a more direct link to theMarch Madness contest
Or else here is one http://www.comicmix.com/2015/03/25/mix-march-madness-2015-webcomics-tournament-round-1-vote-now/
Thanks, but that’s a link to Round 1. I’m pretty sure voting is closed for Round 1. When the next round starts, I’ll definitely post the appropriate link.
‘I only see ideas’ says the guy with one scaly orange pauldron.
Uggghhhh…I hate that line of thinking. It’s so stereotypically blinded by sheer douchebaggery.
Thankfully I haven’t faced this in my work positions (as male-dominated as they are). My colleagues are reasonable people. But I really see how troubling this is to those who face it.
Talking about it, one thing I find a bit lacking is the lack of feminist-positive (or rather, non-jerk) male characters. In feminist media, it is rather easy to get an image that all males, in a way or another, are doing something wrong, and feminist ideas are needed to re-align their thinking (even if they were just genuinely good guys with a slight flaw in their logic). However, in real life, there are male feminists, and also there are those males who don’t identify themselves feminists but who still gladly agree with ideas of gender equality (both pro-male and pro-female).
The only pro-feminist male I can recall in this comic is that Gyno-Star’s gay male friend (there may be more? Mebbe?), but otherwise, all the male characters are messing up things. Also this gay friend was pretty… stereotypically effeminate. Anyway, if it fits, I would be glad to see boarder representation of males that are not misogynist jerks or misguided individuals. Sure, this is a parody comic, but still.
Shirley, you jest?
I’m sure Gyno-Star deals with lots of non-chauvinist, non-patronizing males, however those interactions don’t exactly make for good humorous comics, nor are they likely to hold to the theme of the comic.
Unless the author finds a way to make having a man being a feminist funny, there’s not much to work with there.
“Greetings, Gynostar! Those are some excellent villain vexing volleys that you’re vending. Perhaps we could parley and treat each other to a touch of technique tutelage?”
“Sure thing, Alliterative Adventurer, how’s Wednesday suit you?”
“Sounds simply sublime, gracious Gynostar, simply sublime.”
Aaaaand scene.
I would honestly love to see Dynamo become a semi-regular character. I could see him being feminist-positive since we’ve seen him sort of sympathize with Gyno-Star when it comes to being sidelined due to his minority status. I also think he has some wicked comedic potential.
She’s facing the “double whammy” here – a woman and the “new kid on the block” – in both cases ideas tend to be ignored (until someone else half-remembers them, tosses them out as their own, and everyone recognizes their brilliance)
OK, I see now. After reading the back issues of this comic I see that has one purpose and that’s to put whiny poopy babies down. Evidently Cohen has a serious problem with whiny babies and instead of adjusting her own attitude to learn to deal with reality it’s blame all her problems on whiny poopy babies…. sad mature adults… really sad….
Well, prior to this…it wouldn’t be wrong to say the best ideas there came from men. It was 100% male before this so by default the best ideas there would be coming from men.
I mean, it’s a pedantic technically but what she said wouldn’t incorrect until today.
Is Gyno of Asian decent? It’s hard to tell with the art but Dragon Lady doesn’t really work otherwise.
Technically correct is the best kind of correct!
“Dragon Lady (noun): a woman who is often angry or cruel especially when people do not do what she wants”
I’m vastly more used to it being used as a sexist AND racist insult about East Asian women. It’s usage as an exclusively sexist one (It’s weird when just sexist is an improvement) is weird to see.
So let’s switch out “Dragon Lady” with “Brown Sugar”. What does the last panel say?
“I only see ideas, not gender”. An easy claim to make, when you’d only been working with one gender up until the newest team-member joined.
