Episode 319: Absolute Power
Hi lovely readers! I know it’s been a while since my last update, but we’re back on track with a new comic — and more to come!
So The Blaze Eternal Flame has finally found the secret to his superpowers. He and Catwoman and Starfire should get together and talk about what it’s like to be very sexual people who are empowered by being sexy. No reason that can’t work for men too, right?
This strip makes me very uncomfortable.

Also: have you seen this page on TV Tropes, Rebecca?

Yes I have but thanks for sharing! đŸ™‚
Better question: If it’s making you uncomfortable, why can’t you just leave politely but rapidly?
Or better yet… get over it. :p
Ohhh, suddenly I understand exactly why some groups get so threatened by non-hetero sexiness.
(Oh gawd, his poor spine!)
But it’s empowering, Athywren. Empowering!
Attempting near-Liefeldian contortions aren’t empowering to anything but a chiropractor’s bank account.
Didn’t Gyno-Star just get over this problem with the Malefactor after he turned her blonde and gave her big breasts?
Ok… I just have to pipe in here. That pose isn’t very hard to do. No contortion or chiropractor needed. I did it just now out of curiosity, and I’m a mere mortal
(Not to be confused with meremortal)
“By the power of Greyskull, I haaaave the pooooowwww-oooh, ouch…”
ah, the good ol’ Pecs and Posterior pose.
I love that he’s doing the femme back bend đŸ™‚
I love that he is now so much more comfortable and happy with himself and not bowing to pressure from the phobes
I can just see how his fights will go. He’ll be critiquing his opponents and their choice of wardrobe and footwear. “Sandals? Really? In winter? I’d re-think that if I were you.” “Honey, that color is doing NOTHING for your skin tone.” “Have you ever considered a cape? It would be faboo with that top!” “Lime green spandex? What is this, the Eighties?” If this sort of behavior makes his teammates uncomfortable, imagine what it will do to his antagonists!
At that point, I’d probably just shoot him. I’m totally not a villain, by the way. Just putting that out there. Definitely haven’t fought any superheroes. No sirree.
Also, “No capes”!
Ah, this reminds me why I quit watching Bill O’Reilly. I mean, I knew he was a bit of a fathead, but for a while he was a fun to watch fathead.
Then one night he went on a “why do gays have to be gay in public” rant after one of his kids apparently saw two guys holding hands and kiss once in public. This big long rant and the didn’t once mention any complaints about heterosexuals doing the same thing. That absurd double-standard added him to the “bigot” category in my head, and almost totally removed him from the “enjoyable to watch” category (other than rewatching his classic Inside Edition meltdown when he didn’t know what the phrase “play us out” meant and his occasional appearances with guests that showed him up, like Jon Stewart).
Ah well. Nice to see you back. đŸ™‚
Did you hear about the time he tried to claim that science couldn’t figure out how the tides work?
To be fair, tides do go in and out. I am rather baffled as to how there could be an explanation. Baffled, I say! Baffled!
To be fair, he did clarify his remarks by saying that science didn’t have an explanation for how the Moon got up there.
On the other hand, SCIENCE HAS AN EXPLANATION FOR HOW THE MOON GOT UP THERE. So I’m not sure I’ve really balanced this discussion, to be fair.
Oh yeah, any time David Silverman from the American Atheists goes on the O’Reilly Factor, Bill always manages to say something especially dumb. He’s one of the few guests who will entice me to watch that show anymore.
Neil deGrasse Tyson went on The Colbert Report shortly after that bomb from Bill and did a magnificent job explaining how tides work.
O’Reilly truly plumbs the depths of ignorance on many issues.
Plumbing the depths of ignorance seems to be the only in-depth journalism Fox News people are any good at, I’d say.
i’m jealous; I wish I were that flexible.
We all do, Saskfan. We all do.
Is Corporal Cannonball used to being made uncomfortable in ways that he is comfortable with? Is one of his foes the Dominatrix?
Or perhaps one of his allies?
Oh, snap!
Are you referring to his spine? :p
Straight people. So fucking predictable and childish.
(facepalm)
Face palming because it’s true? Seriously. They’re exactly what gay people get from straight people. And it’s childish as fuck.
Could we just, not make statements like this?
And what the Hell for? Straight people’s feelings?
I don’t think there is any benefits to gain from generalizing a group of people after their sexual orientation. Some straight people might be childish. I’ll help you out by saying that some people are childish; and bunch of those are either gay, straight, bi or otherwise.
Then again, can one have a discussion about one group treating the other badly without some form of generalization? I don’t know.
I just think putting people in boxes across the board is a bad thing.
You’re doing a form of false equivalency here if you think this is the same as the shit straight people pull. It’s literally me venting about their bullshit.
Hey you two, I’m cutting this convo off here. Take it elsewhere if you want to get in a flame war.
I love the final pose for EF: the standard super heroine action pose not merely SHOWING but positively SHOWCASING chest and ass. Welcome back, Rebecca.
Thanks đŸ™‚
i would be afraid he burn down the base if he looks any gayer (if that is possible) I think that he just need to be more acceptive of his homosexuality for his power to work. but really if it was a women whose power worked that way, so much people would cry about it
Hee!
I’m uncomfortable with just how comfortable I am with their discomfort.
As I learned a long time ago, homophobia is just a fear of one’s own inherent queerness.
And nothing—really NOTHING—pisses of a homophobe like pointing out their own queerness.
all he needs now is a fabulous mane of hair, some itty bitty horns and an even crazier pose and bam! we’ll have a pyrokinetic version of kars!
seriously, dude looks like one of the lost pillarmen, it’s great! XD
Still trying to get my mind around Corporal Cannonball’s verbal acrobatics. Is it possible to be uncomfortable in ways one IS comfortable with?
I don’t know. That outfit would make me uncomfortable because of how embarrassed I would be of how much I like to look at him.
Corporal Cannonball maybe is uncomfortable because he doesn’t like what he sees?
That outfit is oversexualised and and impractical, based on a flimsy justification.
…Just like, what, 90% of female superhero outfits out there?
But then, if he enjoys wearing it, who cares.
Ok, now I have a question. If his powers get much stronger when he is preening and posturing, what’s going to happen to them when he is out being a hero and gets his outfit nasty or something? Does his powers go away? Just curious…..
Nope, they don’t go away — he gets into a hissy fit about how his outfit has been damaged, and then watch out! His powers increase logarithmically…
Sometimes the line between gay culture and gay stereotypes can be fuzzy, but “hissy fit” seems like it falls on the stereotype side.
So the campier he looks and/or behaves the more powerful he gets?
Why do only visibly gay superheroes get to wear sexy costumes? It’s not as if women don’t enjoy looking at men in flimsy, sexualized outfits.
If you can’t take the heat…
Get out of the Leage!
C’mon someone had to do it!
Yeah, I can imagine how being burned to a crisp would be pretty uncomfortable. Maybe step back a bit?
