Strange, I don’t recall any girls taking off their shirts for me to put my head on the last time I got clobbered. (Not that I make a habit out of getting clobbered mind you. Maybe it has something to do with not being a shirtless jogger or whatever that guy is supposed to be.)
what is she gonna do? take her own shirt off and kiss the good looking guy’s ass while proclaiming to “fight male chauvinism”.
I think that mask is too tight on her head to allow circulation.
Shirtless guy is so much hotter because he’s the only man there not dressed like he’s severely stupid.
Those women are obviously perceptive enough to pick up on that.
I noticed how you drew your jock jerk with a much more balanced body. Muscles on men & breasts on women suffer from a cliff effect. The moment the both go 1 ounce too much they look really gross.
This comment was, weirdly, a eureka moment for me. I’ve seen the type presented as being highly attractive to straight women (sometimes clearly intended as “fanservice”) several times and never been into it (which kind of made me wonder a bit if I wasn’t straight or what).
I can’t help but wonder if the victim would attract nearly as many sympathizers if he wasn’t a freakin’ Adonis (of course he wouldn’t). This comic kind of adds legitimacy Alpha Man’s beliefs instead of taking away from them.
My point, sorta, is you HAD to make him good looking because it just wouldn’t work if he wasn’t. Hell, if Cpt. Shirtless was fat they might even side with Objectifer.
Yeah, this comic just makes me sad. Been wondering what to think about it for a while now and it basically just legitimizes Alpha-Man’s point of view. It proves him right and I think that is not what you were going for…
I think you are missing the subtle difference. Alpha-man was right in that he wants to attract a certain type of woman he needs to get more muscluar. What Alpha-man is missing is that there is a limit to how muscluar women want their men (he went too far) and that women are also looking for certain personality (shallow pretty girls tend to like shallow guys, they just happen to pick the pretty ones because they get first pick).
I think they’re supposed to be sympathetic to him because he’s hurt, but the panel can also be read as them liking the pretty jerk, and Rebecca might want to follow up on that.
Normally my female friends have delivered one of two explainations as to why they don’t find hyper-levels of muscularity attractive:
1) These men scare them or intimidate them. And I can see that. I automatically go into caution mode around elephants or other large animals no matter how friendly they seem. I have seen timid people and children freak out around lovable, but large dogs. It is hard to find something attractive that terrifies them.
2) They find muscles that big gross. The striations and viens gross them out and they find porportions to be all wrong.
I have never hear of fear of homosexuality as reason for them not showing interest. And I have never let minor or indirect signs of lesibanism keep me from finding a woman attractive.
First to address the above: It’s equally likely the shirtless guy was just offering our muscle-bound madman a friendly ribbing. I used to mistake the friendly teasing guys give each other for honest bullying. That’s why I always try to give people the benefit of the doubt. It’s much easier going through life assuming people are good than stressing over everyone being wicked.
Anyway, I do have a criticism of this current storyline. It seems to me the stereotype of the “Charles Atlas Wannabe Nerd” has passed. It seems more likely nowadays for a 90 pound weakling supervillain to create some kind of mind-control device.
Today’s nerd is quite confident and sure of himself. Many of us (ahem, them) can even develop a type of narcissism as a result. It’s a part of our culture that praises the Self above all things. Why change when you’re perfect just the way you are? No, others should change for you!
It’s also a symptom of the dreaded “Nice Guy.” Now, I used to consider myself one of those. Until I realized it was a nonsensical label to self-apply. Plus, it was leading me slowly but surely toward misogyny. You’d be amazed how easy it is to follow “I’m a good guy. Why girls no like me?” with “Oh! It because them bad! Girls bad! Wah!”
All the time, actually. 🙂
And thus Alpha Male turned to villainy . . .
Man midriff. That is all.

I can’t explain it, Bob. Some guys just have “it,” you know? Work on your “it.”
It being pecs?
Don’t think so… Alpha Man definitely has pecs.
Some of us are born with a negative “it” so repulsion is the way of life.
when will gyno-star stop this madness !?

Soon! (You have to figure…)
Shirtless guy is so much hotter because he’s the only man there not dressed like he’s severely stupid.
Those women are obviously perceptive enough to pick up on that.
But not perceptive to pick up on him likely being a douche-bag who makes fun of weirdly dressed people…
Not every pretty bimbo can also be a rocket scientist. That’s not necessarily a bad thing, because it would make space movies much different.
Also, people are shallow. And superhero body types aren’t actually hot.

So now I’m kind of annoyed by that.
“HA! I kill me!”
Wait, he didn’t say “ALF-man”?
Yay ALF reference! 😀

Everybody likes pretty people.
My point, sorta, is you HAD to make him good looking because it just wouldn’t work if he wasn’t. Hell, if Cpt. Shirtless was fat they might even side with Objectifer.
Yeah that last panel is total b/s. Nobody would even stop and help the guy because he’s just a “man”.

What’s the “personality” of the hurt guy?
We didn’t even get to see if he has any. For all we know he could as asshole-y as “Alpha-man”.
Why isn’t the hurt guy some fat bald guy?
Oh right because no woman would want him, even if he would be trampled alive.
Hypocrisy at its finest in this strip.
That word you’re using. I don’t think it means what you think it means.
That’s not it at all. The girls figure any guy who spends way too much time to become that muscular is probably gay.
That’s pretty sexist.
If a woman spends a lot of time taking care of herself she is considered lesbian?
Wtf is this? Kindergarten?
Interesting.

I am the strongest! I am the best! I am Captain Plagarism!
I think I’d like Captain Teenage Punishment better 😛
