I’m detecting a pattern here, I think. Rage makes The Base bigger, and confusion makes it smaller. There’s a fine line between rage and confusion for it, though, as it often goes directly from confusion to rage. Approach it in a straightforward, confident manner, like Annie did, and it shrinks. Try to appease it, like the reporter did here (or give it another focus for its anger) and it rages and gets bigger. Also, when Annie effectively redirected The Base’s anger to itself (“I’m the snowflake? You’re the one who’s getting angry”), it shrank. Apparently it needs to be angry at ANYTHING other than itself to grow.
