Discussion (52) ¬
Well, since she can’t change back, I guess I can live with it!
Strong female character… by which he means boobs. Ok…
That thong CAN’T be comfortable, and as for the top, I’m assuming there’s some sort of adhesive in use?
On the other hand, all the Objectifier has been doing is posing and monologuing; maybe he’s limited by his preconceptions.
Little Sappho better get moving and knock some sense into the both of them.
You mean “Rabid marxist straw-man girl”?
I’d say she’s less of a straw man than a parody. Even Gloria Steinem admits that she was only able to carry on her crusade because her husband was well-off, after all. And high school and college campuses are full of kids unironically wearing mass-produced Che Guevara T-shirts, and texting each other about fighting the man on $300 phones.
Ah, the man. On the one hand, we’re supposed to loath him by default.
On the other hand, he gives us way cool stuff, like a stable(ish) economy, education, healthcare…
The man’s not all bad.
I think the cell phone thing is a bit unfair; after all, information is a war asset, and the American Revolution essentially only happened because of colonial-era memes.
Mass-produced Che Guevara T-shirts are the opposite of subversive, though.
I’m sure he has a toggle switch in his back to reverse the polarity of his MGB… and, failing that, there’s always hair dye, tailors, and intensive posture retraining facilities. Either that, or friendzoned non-girlfriend friend might have a cure – they do seem to be scientists, after all.
…No.
It sort of goes with Male Gaze Man’s Liefeld vibe, which is to say that it’s a total abomination 🙂
Liefeld vibe…does this mean GS is standing en pointe the entire time as well? Ouch!
Okay, what does that bimbette clutching doofus’ leg mean by “This explains a lot.”?
I’m guessing she’s talking about the fact that since being zapped she can’t stop clinging to objectifier and posing.
about him, her colleague.
That line completely cracked me up. She doesn’t want to be there attached to his leg, and would probably have run for her life. But she can’t stop holding his leg to make him look more epic. Its part of her transformation.
Could also be that there’s no point in looking like a douche if you don’t act like one. And that is what Objectifier is doing.
Well, he doesn’t seem to have changed her basic personality. She’s demanding that he change her back and upset because she can’t stop posing. Maybe that can offset her mannerisms. (Again, what is Purple Guy doing all this time?)
I’m guessing that Purple Guy was the one who ran off to call GS, and is probably hiding nearby, waiting to see if what happened to him could be reversed.
must re-re-sist. must resist becoming evil again…must, ah farg it! I am so going to cut that fools hamstrings, pee on his little brony collection, kick him so hard hit testi hang out his nose and then? Then I’ll start really hurting him. Lyle, take a note.
I’ll take the new gyonstar look from the waist down and the old one from the waist up. The oversized boobs look ridiculous and I’ve never liked blond.
Well…they do say that blondes have more fun… *shrugs*
That is because they have an open leg policy…lol
Pet theory: the general pop sociological belief that blondes are less intelligent may be related to phenylketonuria, a condition that (when untreated) may cause both intellectual disability, seizures, and blonde hair / blue eyes.
(However, these days this condition is screened for at birth in rich countries and manageable by dietary measures +/- medication, meaning that people with it can grow up with whatever their hair and eye colour would have been otherwise and also without intellectual impairment / seizures).
You saying that blue eyed blondes are an unnatural genetic abomination? One that needs medication to ‘fit in with society’? o_O
He he. Several very good laughs in that strip. Not to mention the tongue-in-cheek question “What you think of Gyno-Star’s new look and style?”
Given my own strip, I’ma just be vewy vewy quiet and enjoy the lulz…
Tried to find that, but giantgirlcomics.com is coming back with a server error.
It’s http://www.giantgirladventures.com/
Unless her clothes are GLUED on her then she CAN cover up.
Also what is up with this new puritanical Gynostar?
Her original costume and figure are ALREADY very “idealistic”.
Maybe not as much skin showing but still. Her reaction is pretty deranged.
Puritanical because someone forced her to wear something hypersexualized? Erm… No
She chose her clothes before, wasn’t ashamed of her body, and had no reason to be. This is something she was forced into against her will.
Bingo, and not to get too serious, but I think the strip also does a good job of opening the door for discussion about victim-blaming, etc. It shouldn’t matter what she wore before – no person should become a target, no matter what they wear in the first place. OK, enough preaching. To Zap’s original statement, I’d like to mention that in this strip, it’s shown that she CAN’T cover up – she can’t stop posing long enough to do so.
I would also suggest that HER BODY has been changed, not just the wardrobe. If you were forced to become something else without being able to choose, but you were allowed to cover it up with loose clothes, would you be ok with that?
Even if Gynostar decides she likes what was done (who knows? She does have a shallow side, she’s not a saint), she still won’t like that she had no say in it.
You make odd comments… the idea that “stop trying to make alpha man happen” was objectifying was weird enough, but now Gynostar reacting negatively to having her body, costume, and pose changed against her will is puritanical and deranged? I don’t even…
If criticising an egotistical (and scientifically inaccurate) name choice is objectification, and forcefully changing the way someone looks so that it’s in line with your own ideas of attractiveness isn’t, and objecting to that is puritanically deranged… which way is up?
I’m getting a strong troll vibe off Zap, myself.
The new outfit looks chilly and uncomfortable! What if you were forced to wear it and pose, Zap? Would that annoy you?
(More importantly, would that traumatise us? Unless you can pull it off, please, no pictures.)
Noooooooo!!!!!!
At what point do I get to use the phrase “slut shaming”? (joke)
At what point does Gyno-Star become a slut? Isn’t she just a victim here like the thigh clutchers he created?
Well, sometimes size DOES matter – and this is too big for me…
This is the best comic post ever. I just want to say to the ladies that showing LESS of your body makes you attractive. Tell yourselves you’re strong and powerful without anyone’s consent. Guys, same to you. I’m not going to be hypocritical, sometimes I like guys with meat on them. I’ve always had an attraction towards guys who were a bit chubby as well. But I’m digressing now. This comic shows stereotypes that we’ve lived up to for hundreds of years and we can change that.
Wait, I think I got it.
“So this would be a villain of hers, like Bizarro Gynostar…?”
Only took me two days to come up with it.
‘re “strong female character” check out what Kate Beaton did to that trope at her “Hark a Vagrant” for another good take on it. The irony of Objectifer is it seems like he works for DC and turned G-star into one of their female supers; seems apt given the setting at a Comic-Con.
Big boobs scare me, and I prefer brunettes. That aside, Gynostar has proven herself not above vanity, so she may learn to accept herself this was. . .as long as she can get a suit that covers her up, and she can retrain her body to stop posing and her spine to stay aligned. It’s a guest strip; this change isn’t permanent.
What do you mean? She clearly said she’s stuck like this, so it must be true.
Just finished a full-on overnight archive trawl, and I love this comic (I suppose that’s a bit redundant; if I didn’t like it, I would have stopped before catching up). Anyway, just wanted to say that this is a very fun read, with special mention to the unicorn and moon base bits. Thanks for the laughs.
Thanks for reading! I hope you’ll stick around, because I intend to add even more funny bits in the future.
I look forward to it!
Hold on half a second, that guy in the back of Panel 3, he seems to be wearing a sports bra of some kind. Does that mean he’s cos-playing as SAM cos-playing as She-Hulk, or just straight up She-Hulk?
I can’t live with it. I want her to have her normal gloves back NOW!
