Gyno Dear, I was hoping that you’d realize your error, apologize for being rude, and start again. I think it’s too late now… But you could have changed question 5 to “Have you any training in hand-to-hand combat?”
Yes, Gyno-Star needs to talk less and listen more. I’m looking forward to seeing what Ms. Ang actually does as a superhero and how she gets along with the rest of the team.
Of course, it’s also interesting to see Gyno-Star doing a lot of the same things to someone else that she had problems with the League of Superheroes doing to her — you know, making assumptions, not hearing what she was saying, etc.
Yeah. I think that the defining difference is that Gyno-Star has the ability to learn and change. Maybe Rebecca is providing us with a teaching moment-everybody makes mistakes sometimes, the real difference is made when we figure out what they are and learn from them.
But yeah, I think that Gyno-Star is doing a bit more than “talking too much” and “not listening.”
Agreed. Panel 2 seems pretty out-of-character for her. Gyno-Star may be an imperfect feminist, but not only would I have expected her to know better than to unsolicitedly demonstrate an offensive racial stereotype, she should have been more guarded after her (deserved) chastisement last week.
(What’s more, the stereotype in question is so dated! That’s, like, from /Sixteen Candles/ and earlier. I would think a more common thing nowadays would be to assume she’s a math wizard.)
Terri: At this point, I’d all but expect Ms. Ang to respond with, “No, I’m not,” and walk away in disgust.
How does feminism not be apart of this feminist comic? Like it’s mostly the reason the comic exists? And what Gynostar is doing is a very common thing White Feminists do.
Make an effort and look it up! White feminism is a term that refers to actual shit that has been going on in the feminist movement since day one and still does. The fact that “white feminists aren’t more racist than white people in general” is kinda the POINT.
It may be a feminist comic in general, but that doesn’t mean that EVERY comic has something to do with feminism.
Many have had to do with various other prejudices and problems, such as Eternal Flame’s inability to admit who he was or other people’s inability to deal with it when he did. This isn’t a one note comic, thus it’s simply wrong to treat it as if it is.
So, I repeat what I said earlier, not everything a feminist does is a part of feminism. The same goes for a feminist comic.
Gynostar definitely needs to work on her intersectonnal feminism. Or on not being a racist asshole. But at least she’s realising it and willing to improve, and not, you know: ” it was just a joke!, ” i’m not -insert- i have -token minority- friends”, “why are you so sensible?”
I can’t imagine how sheltered GS must have been before she became a feminist superhero. It seems like every time she encounters even remotely unfamiliar territory, she ends up stumbling hard enough to break her ankles.
Um. Wow. You might want to work on that, Gynostar… I think Ms Ang has earned a free pummelling token for resisting the urge to pummel her.
Maybe if she pummels her, we can see what her powers are!

Maybe Ms Ang’s power is to drag latent stereotypical thinking out into the light of day in the most offensive way possible. 😀
Rats! Joan beat me to it.
That’ll teach me to read all the comments before posting.
I think Gynostar is a fictional character. And the writer has a sense of humor. Amazing!!! feminists with a sense of humor!
One step forward and two steps back for Gyno-Star. Hanging out with the testosterone squad has had a negative affect on her cognition.
i’m sure she’ll recover in time
I am beginning to suspect that Ms. Ang’s superpower is to make people say the racist things they are thinking aloud.
That would explain a lot.
I hope she still wants to work with the team after all of this …
Good theory! Perhaps her day job is television news commentator, at a certain unnamed broadcasting network….
my fave strip yet from this story arc! expertly executed 😀
Thank you!
Gynostar has a bit of a problem what with all that white feminism there
Nothing in the above strip has anything to do with “white feminism”, or even just “feminism”.
Not everything a feminist does is a part of feminism, you know?
That’s true. I know one feminist who likes to bake cakes for her friends’ birthdays. Nothing to do with feminism, really. Just a being a good friend.
How does feminism not be apart of this feminist comic? Like it’s mostly the reason the comic exists? And what Gynostar is doing is a very common thing White Feminists do.
It’s a common thing white people do. I don’t think white feminists are racist more often than white people in general.
…? Wow. No where in my reply does it say that. But hey. It’s not like White Feminists aren’t white people themselves.
You didn’t say that, but you did disagree with HiEv writing that it has nothing to do with feminism.
It has only to do with feminism insofar as you might be extra disappointed when a feminist is racist, because you expected better of her.

……and just when she couldn’t get that foot in deeper..they found that they had to amputate.
Open questions, Gynostar. Open questions. Leave your preconceptions at the door if you wish to learn anything.
Wow.
Just.
Wow.
i feel like GS would be smarter than to do something like that. it doesn’t seem like the sort of thing she would say.
Perhaps Gynostar would like a little soy sauce for that boot she’s currently chewing?

I’m not sure which is more hilarious. GynoStar doing the asian-eyes or Annie Ang’s shocked expression afterwards.
But why didn’t she just skip to the “Do you have super strength” question?
Annie: I know kung fu…
Alex: For the last time, Ms. Ang, you do not know kung fu.
She seems to be channeling our Secretary of State. I hope the next interviewee isn’t from France.
…on the bright side, she’s learning, right?
Seriously, WTF is with Gynostar in this one? Very out-of-character for her to be acting so offensive…
At this point I’m almost surprised that Gyno-Star didn’t say, “Why don’t I just chop stick to the interview script.” #GoingAllIn
