I’m not a hardcore libertarian; I have no problem with social safety programs like Social Security and Medicare. I just want to cut wasteful spending (drug war, Patriot Act and TSA, bloated military budgets) and stop the government from screwing us over. I dislike the Democrats as much as I dislike the Republicans, because BOTH parties will violate our rights.
Obama renewed the Patriot Act, keeps the war on drugs going, has engaged in unnecessary military ventures like his predecessor, and now may have helped crackdown on protesters who were simply exercising their constitutional rights.
How many wars has Obama started? How many world economies has he helped to crash? How many national tragedies has he manipulated for political gain? How many national tragedies has he ignored because most of the people suffering were black? I could actually go on for hours about the differences.
Sure Obama has his failings, but to say he is no better than Bush is ignorant and hypocritical if you claim to be a libertarian. If that’s the measure of your political intelligence you are no better than a stopped clock.
I’d say more about the cartoon but it pretty much said it all.
I would also like to add that at least Obama suggests that GASP women and gay people are deserving of equal rights, and is pro-science.
As opposed to certain members of the other side, who think that if a woman is raped and gets pregnant from it she can magically self-terminate the pregnancy with her, you know, magical ladyparts. They can’t tell you WHICH magical ladypats, but they know they’re there!
Also, the war on drugs has actually been lessening in many areas – probably because they recognize what’s happening with cannabis is the same as what happened with alcohol prohibition (that happened starting in the states as well!). Local prosecutors in Washington state have already said that they won’t enforce federal prohibitions and there’s much the feds can do about it since they have to convict them locally… in the same area that voted to legalize the stuff. Yes, the Obama administration’s record on it isn’t perfect; but overall, they aren’t going to change the pattern of history, which is heading in favor of decriminalization right now.
Also, seeing as the only choices we had that would have even remotely come close to winning, were him and Mittens… well. I think we dodged the bullet on that one. If you think Obama is bad, I don’t think you want to think about how bad a Romney administration might have been…
Obama is a Conservative. The insane partisan attack on him makes him look liberal in ways that are untrue. Are they really against one of their own? Hard to tell.
It’s the Overton Window. Obama falls about the same on most issues as the Republican party did in the 90s, but the Republicans now have moved even further to the right, so he’s left looking liberal by comparison.
I love the tie-ins.
Obama administration may have helped coordinate crackdowns on OWS protests:

Face facts, Obama is the same as Bush, and the Democrats are just as bad as the Republicans.
Yeah, they’re totally the same thing to someone who thinks government is terrible and should be stopped at all costs.
You hardcore libertarians are so intolerable.

Again I say, Obama is no better than Bush.
