Guest Comic by Tony Esteves!
Today marks the 20th birthday of the webcomic Cigarro & Cerveja, and its wonderful creator (and friend of this webcomic) Tony Esteves decided to honor the momentous occasion with this very funny Gyno-Star guest strip.
Check out Cigarro & Cerveja – it’s worth your time! – and send Tony some love if you get a chance.
Congrats Tony on the big anniversary!
Oh goodness I hope this comic is canon. xD
Very appropriate tattoo on his shoulder.
Of course we know what’s going to happen to him if he actually starts getting in there and physically brawling with this villain. Prepare for Toxic Masc to be absorbed by the collective…
Is Toxic Masc the alter ego (former protege?) of the White Knighter?
Really? He reminds me more of Vlad Deferens.
I think he’s more like another version of Vlad Deferens.
But does Gynostar not rely on violence and (changing) gender roles in her own way? Hm? Hmmmmmmmmmm?
My impression from reading this comic is that Gynostar is not above punching the occasional Nazi (or drop-kicking, as appropriate) but in general prefers non-violent conflict resolution even in the face of hatred and threats.
Caveat: I am not personally acquainted with Ms. Cohen, and do not pretend to speak for her.
My personal belief is that violence creates more problems than it can ever solve, and that to think otherwise is a fundamental misapprehension of the way the world works. Unfortunately, this misconception is widely held.
For example, Assad thinks he can kill his way out of his problems in Syria. The destruction resulting from this error will devastate the country for generations, creating fertile ground for more violence.
As Sun Tzu states in The Art of War. “It is best to avoid war, but if one must go to war, go to win.” One example of this taken to extremes is Carthage in the Third Punic War. Given the chance to surrender completely to the Roman Empire, Carthage decided by a margin of one vote to defend against Roman conquest, and were wiped out completely.
If I understand your point, you are suggesting that because half the population didn’t want to fight, they fought unenthusiastically, thereby dooming themselves and their compatriots. This may be true – it is a reasonable guess as to what happened – but I’m not sure how it bears on the discussion of violence versus non-violence.
Had they surrendered, they might still have been slaughtered. Had they fought tooth and nail, they might still have been slaughtered.
Non-violence doesn’t always work . . . but violence ALWAYS creates resentment in the losers (or their friends and relatives if they’re all killed). There is no such thing as a “final solution”. To expand on my mention of Assad, long after he is dead – from old age if not from assassination – his children and grand children will be hated. It is very likely that those who supported him will eventually be charged with war crimes. And by making a deal with the devil (ably represented by Putin) he has condemned the future of Syria to be a vassal state to an organised crime empire.
He would have done far better to give his people good government from the beginning. Then there would have been no need for an Arab Spring. But he preferred the wealth he obtained through corrupt practices, and had to allow others similar benefits in order to maintain control. This has led to a situation such that even if he “wins”, he will be the ruler of a ruined country. He will be worse off than if he had governed fairly. He might still be able to maintain a moderately lavish lifestyle (at the expense of the survivors), but he will be beholden to Russia to keep the population intimidated. He will be a puppet ruler only.
I’ve been reading your comics for a while. They’re really good. Keep it up!
His excessive violence is only a joke!
Like when Little Sappho horribly murders people. Just a “joke”.
I’m pretty sure Little Sappho exists to make Gynostar seem sane by comparison.
Bone structure, lol. Does this mean Toxic Masc is a Chad?
