I went back over your earlier strips and showed them to my teen daughter. She loves Gynostar! You make me laugh out loud and I thank you because today has been walk down grim street.
Yeah, anorexic women and women with eating disorders are so stupid. I mean, it’s not like they have a psychological disorder or something… (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anorexia_nervosa)… oh wait.
Wait, is it a psychological disorder or is it caused by looking at magazines? Are you saying that every woman influenced by a fashion magazine has a psychological condition?
Um… Is that sarcasm? Because in many cases disordered eating is caused by societal pressures. It has been researched: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2533817/
So while not every woman who has an ED is only influenced by fashion magazine, and not every person influenced by them will ultimately develop an ED, fashion mags and other ways of putting pressure on women to be thin are pretty effective in causing more and more instances of those disorders.
Calling people who are influenced by the destructive media “stupid” is hardly feminist. The media and the society as a whole are at fault here, not the individual women who give in to the pressure that surrounds them on their every step.
This comic isn’t about eating disorders. Cutie Mark Crusader is the one who made that leap, assuming that women being influenced by magazines must mean women developing eating disorders. To jump from one to the other is to oversimplify both the causes and nature of eating disorders AND the type of influence fashion magazines can have on women.
While I appreciate your point that culture and society are to blame, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with also holding people accountable for the specific media they choose to embrace.

Yay for your daughter! Next generation, keeping the movement alive. I love it!
Ha ha! Yeah, people need to stop being so influenced by others. It’s silly.
…. shit, touch call.

If all body types are equally beautiful then why isn’t it that all brains are equally smart?
Wow, you really got her there!
Stupid can’t learn, they are resistant to it.
The Ignorant can learn.
