For a slightly-more-detailed history on how Democrats and Republicans switched political positions in 1910, have a look at this YouTube video. I’ve set up the link to start two minutes into the video so it gets into the discussion of the KKK and its political affiliations immediately.
Isn’t it amusing how they prove themselves wrong? He says he’s not prejudiced, we are, but then he says things like that. What about the Civil Rights Act? The Voting Rights Act? But no, he doesn’t want to acknowledge that the Conservative movement, led by Barry Goldwater and the National Review, declared itself in favor of segregation. So instead he falls back on stereotypes about welfare.
I posted some more worthless drivel, also complaints about “censorship.” But then I realized this isn’t my website and if my contributions aren’t entertaining, enlightening or in any way worthwhile, the actual owner of this site is allowed to get rid of them.
Thank goodness I have a whole entire internet where I can spew whatever nonsense I like, so I don’t have to do it here.
I must be about seven years old because I don’t seem to realize the out-of-context and irrelevant facts I’m trying to bring up are widely known by most adults. How silly of me to think that educated people who follow politics wouldn’t know basic common knowledge! And here I thought I, a special snowflake, was bringing up points and information people hadn’t heard before. As I grow older I’ll understand that my contributions aren’t special, but in fact are the same drivel that can be found all over the internet and social media. Nobody needs me to educate them!
“Being a nice guy means doing something you want anyway, even if there is a chance somebody else might benefit from it too.” – Some old calledar quote I think.
This is a very accurate depiction of both sides in American politics these days. Once upon a time, each side would compromise a little of what it wanted to get a little of what it wanted, and the process would eventually yield something less than optimal but which had some staying power. Each side would bit the bullet and would be willing to save face with dignity and grace.
Are you kidding me? The Democrats love to compromise with Republicans. You might even say they’re suspiciously eager to compromise. Bush jr. got his tax cuts months before 9/11, then Obama made them permanent.
That’s why right now the decision on whether (and when) to indict Clinton over her email scandal is in the hands of James Comey, Ashcroft’s former #2, and an Obama appointee.
Democrats spent the last eight years trying to reach common ground with conservatives. Conservatives shut down the government and complained that the liberals weren’t listening to their demands while simultaneously refusing to actually say what they wanted. Don’t try to pretend that both sides are somehow equal on this.
Heck, right now, conservatives are trying to block a Supreme Court nomination for a full year just to prevent a fairly moderate judge from being placed on it.
I agree, it’s crap. Submitting judges for consideration to the Supreme Court is one of the best perks of being the Commander-In-Chief. However, it is the responsibility of Congress to approve them – and that procedure, clunky as it is, has a LOT of procedural loopholes that can be exploited.
It happened several times during the Reagan and Bush eras. Not very effectively, mind you, but leadership on the judicial committee did try to prevent several nominees with whom liberals had significant problems (Bork took in in the shorts, as I recall, and there were several other that liberals tried to block during the Bush era). That procedural BS is part of our government and tinkering with it may produce excellent results or cause extreme miscarriages of justice. So far, this current incarnation, ripe for abuse as it is, is yet an improvement over previous implementations. Is it the best? Not by a long shot – but I’ll still stay in the country that I was born in, because as bad as it is, there are *many* options out there which I prefer to avoid.
Don’t know about the slime monster situation but in case of the presidential election the solution is clear, the majority of voters have to agree not to vote a major party but the libertarian party or the green party instead.
Libertarian vs. Green Party is still conservative vs. liberal, and in my honest opinion Jill Stein is the best candidate anyway. Also Gary Johnson is at least a lot better than Trump (or most of the other failed Republican candidates).
Rebecca! Your strip is very nice. Err… I mean very good. I thoroughly enjoy it. Gods know that I know that makin’ bucks is central to a decent life, here in the good ol’ USA but I wish that you could devote more time to your brilliant strip.
This is way, way too true.
I believe this is the first time in comics history that a pustular monster has been depicted with one of his pustules popping in action. Nice detail.
Thank you. I really don’t see the point of pustules that aren’t popping.
The KKK was born of the democrats. The republicans are no more racist than democrats. The democrats have a better PR team.
The KKK was born of the Democrats *150 years ago*. Parties change. Like how the Republicans changed to embrace racists in the “Southern Strategy”.

Some nonsense that isn’t worth reading.

You are very creative. You should go far.
Her eyes make her look like Zombie Nancy Ray-Gun.
Yep.
Oh, Gawd! I hadn’t been reading the comments on this site, so I had not picked up on the sludge monster’s probable name.
It’s Donald Dump!
LOL, that would be a good one. But no, its name is The Base.
Tronald Dumpf? (But I think it’s already been named in strip as “The Base”.)
I think the guy with the cape and hair should a pun on Superman, maybe “Super PAC.”
I was planning to call him The Incorporator, LLC. But I do really like Super PAC.
And the one with the cigar is what, Commander Bear Arms? And what’s the bird? White Hawk?
Bear Arms and War Hawk.

These days, not so much.

Be afraid. Be very, very afraid.

Bork got confirmation hearings and a vote; he just lost them.
Yes, this current situation is not “business as usual” for SCOTUS nominations. It’s pretty much unprecedented.
Why does the lady in the Red Dress look so much like Nancy Pelosi?
Careful Doc….you post is likely to get deleted as this one probably will.
Don’t be a cry baby.
I’m not seeing it.
My goodness, I was talking about the politics not the dress! And the squint, yes, that’s definitely a Nancy squint.
similarities end after comparing gender. You might as well say the woman in the red dress looks a lot like Olivia Munn.

Good luck with that plan.

How could I help?
