The hardest of hard liners are winnowing out those not as hard line. Purifying it till only they are the party and only those who agree will vote for them. A regional party at best unless they continue to gerrymander districts that allows them to win with lower numbers. A terrible state of affairs.
Politicians in our current era have learned something we never, ever, wanted them to figure out: Fanatics never skip a voting day, ever.
If they’re bat-shit crazy enough to spend hours a day for weeks parading around with big signs spouting the most anti-social beliefs possible on them, they’re definitely going to show up and cast a ballot for a candidate who promises to get their self-destructive ideas codified into US law.
The demonstrated success of this method of gaining loony-votes has lead to a lot of the most oppressive laws we have today… and the ones they’re still trying to get passed.
The sad thing is a year and half later, the Republican candidates and their followers still sound this willfully stupid.
In some ways, they sound worse now.
Republican, Democrat–it doesn’t matter; they’re all politicians and they need to be…controlled permanently.
