Episode 309: What’s in a Name?
on March 17, 2015
and modified on July 6, 2018.
Coming up with good names for stuff can be challenging. Believe me, I know…
So, hey: Gyno-Star is back! Thanks for hanging in there while I got my shit together, loyal readers. You’re the best.
I care about Big Ben…
i care about me too ^-^
Let’s try that again, shall we?
→Kermit-type “Yaaaaaaaaaay!”←
Yay! Gyno-Star is back!
But I care about the CN tower…
There’s always one I guess. :p
Those wondering about the “people care about” remark, keep in mind whose flag the speaker is wearing.
Naturally “Mr Excelent” only cares about american landmarks.
“…the ones people care about” takes this from great to brilliant. 🙂
;D
Mmhmm. Does the flag-suit match his attitude, or the attitude matches his flag-suit? Real chicken and egg question. Fitting, nonetheless.
if his costume was based on his attitude, he’d be dressed as a gigantic dick.
…oh, wait.
Just remembered what USA’s international reputation is like, didn’t you? ^_^
Man, something about this strip made me think Mr. Excellent’s costume was even more tacky and seizure-inducing than before… I had to go back to the previous pages to realize that, no, he’s always looked like that! 😛
In unrelated news, the unbroken line of 4 straight W’s down the left side of Mr. Excellent’s last dialogue balloon also gave me a chuckle. I’m not sure why that’s news, other than this being a superhero strip and it seems like the genre encourages everything being news. 😛
I love creative uses of word ballons to, never fails to make me smile.
I think it’s because it looks like stripes and polka dots in the same place, which any person even slightly gifted in haute couture can tell you is a fashion faux pas.
Well, hey, could be worse. They could’ve decided to call it the Warrior And Ninja King Education Rover.
LOL
Btw, FYI, Big Ben is actually just the bell – the tower is the Elizabeth Tower. Pretty catchy, huh?
The more you know…
So you’re saying Big Ben is inside of Elizabeth?
Ba-dump-bump!
I’ll show myself out. 😉
Or better yet… “close your eyes and think of England!”
Sorry… I lied about showing myself out. 😛
Athywren taught me something today… and then Sam made sure I can never forget it, even if I wanted to. :/
TEAMWORK!
FTW!
Comeing up with names——very hard. The creaters of “The Incredibles” checked first so that they wouldn’t scotch some name already used.
Not so with the film “Birdman” which I immediately thought of the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series from the 1960’s. Voiced by Keith Andes with his trusty purple super eagle Avenger took on criminals all over the world. Now a live action movie about a has been actor typecast by his most famous role. Sound familiar?
–
What I want to know is how this guy got the huge constructions to be moved from their foundations. Rather heavy they are.
I first assumed that Birdman was a remake of The Birdman of Alcatraz.
The CN Tower is quite literally the least purposeful major landmark in existence. I half think Toronto would be pleased if it were removed. Give them more room for condos.
No no no. Take the condos and the “developers” and leave us our tower.
Without it we would be left with only the cable and satellite monopolies for our sources of HD video entertainment liberally laced with advertising like a grocery store checkout rack magazine.
I for one would miss the CN Tower. On a clear day, I can see it just to the right of downtown Toronto (at least when viewed from my apartment in Brampton, about 50 km to the west). It is distinctive from all those tall office towers just to the left (about 1-2 km from the tower). Believe me, I would notice if the CN Tower went missing.
It was designed back in the 1970’s to be communication tower with all the various radio and television stations broadcasting through it. It had to fit a very small footprint beside the railway tracks in downtown, so no support wires; it had to be freestanding. At just over half a kilometre high, it was the tallest freestanding structure for over three decades, until surpassed by a pair of office towers in south-east Asia.
The least? What about the Burj Khalifa in Dubai? Tallest man-made structure in the world; almost completely empty. Pretty much built for the bragging rights.
(I’d insert a crack about male preoccupation with size here… but why deny Rebecca the opportunity?)
Yay! I am patient so I check in quite often.
And yes, coming up with names is hard…I had a HUGE problem coming up with a name for my novel.
I’ve heard worse could of been the S-Car which needed to Go
With that bunch, I’m now imagining something akin to a clown car.
How do they all fit in there?
…
Yeah, I’m with GS. I’d take a cab, too.
I love your drawing style. Funny, pretty and interesting. Your story lines are pleasantly goofy. I may have married a woman with many of Gynostar’s qualities. I love her dearly.
Thank you (if I ever come into money some of it is yours)
jw
Thanks, John! And your wife sounds pretty awesome to me.
Double funny, great work Rebecca.
Hey, just a couple questions:
In the Objectifier arc (long time ago, I know), the guy mentions he wants to be like Captain Magnum. Given that Magnum sets an unrealistic standard for non-super guys, is he a member of the League of Superheroes?
Also, in the same arc, GynoStar mentions she has a secret identity. I WANT A HERO ORIGIN STORY RIGHT NOW PLZ
Interesting questions! Captain Magnum is a *fictional* superhero who appears only in comic books, unlike Gyno-Star and the League of Superheroes who are real and go around superheroing in real life.
THERE WILL BE AN ORIGIN STORY. Not right now. But eventually. This will definitely happen.
Good update, Rebecca.
